Update on NRCan’s list of eligible Combined Space and Domestic Water Heating Systems (Combos) and Drain Water Heat Recovery Units (DWHR)
As part of Natural Resources Canada’s ongoing management of energy performance data, the list of combined space and water heating systems and drain water heat recovery systems eligible for ENERGY STAR for New Homes certification, was updated on September 16, 2024. Discontinued products, and products without verified performance information have been removed from the eligible product list (the ‘Searchable Product List’).
This update impacts the ENERGY STAR for New Homes certified homes as follows:
- Homes that have already been certified to ESNH using a Combo or DWHR system that is no longer on the eligible product list retain their certification status.
- Homes under construction that utilize a Combo or DWHR system that was purchased, or committed to be purchased, by the builder PRIOR to October 28, 2024, but have been removed from the eligible product list, remain eligible for ESNH certification until December 31, 2026.
- Homes under construction or future builds that utilize a Combo or DWHR system that was purchased by the builder AFTER October 28, 2024, and have since been removed from the eligible product list, will not be eligible for ESNH certification. To be eligible for ESNH, a new build will be required to only rely on those systems that currently appear on the eligible products list.
Homeowners and potential homebuyers are encouraged to reach out to their builder for more information.
