Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to modernize electricity distribution in the City of Saint John through intelligent grid management systems and bring innovative and value-added solutions to Saint John Energy customers. Specifically, SJE will integrate AMI, CVR, ADMS, and DERMS into core business systems, supported by the use of AI for load and generation forecasting, all overlayed with tailored customer programs and rate design to encourage bill savings and DER adoption.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Showcase the seamless integration of several core data systems and advanced technologies that are foundational to an active electricity distribution grid
- Promotes both utility and customer benefits by coupling utility business solutions with the creation of customer centric programs and rates to encourage energy efficient behaviour and DER adoption
- Involves SJE's entire distribution network, demonstrating a solution at scale
- Accelerate grid modernization to optimize electricity system assets, improve system reliability, resiliency, and increase distributed energy resources penetration.
- Assess techno-economic potential of non-wires alternatives to meeting grid need, and set a technical and financial model for similarly sized utilities to expand beyond poles and wires.
- Demonstrate the role of an active distribution system in a future electric system.
- Share knowledge and insights to enhance public awareness.
