Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to accelerate the decarbonization of medium- and heavy-duty vehicle (MHDV) fleets by supporting the transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric alternatives. Through a combination of education, advisory services, and hands-on support, the initiative empowers fleet operators to navigate the complexities of electrification. Central to the project is the deployment of managed charging solutions and telematics, which enable real-time energy optimization, reduce peak demand, and enhance grid reliability. By aligning fleet charging with grid capacity and leveraging data-driven insights, the project not only supports emissions reductions but also delivers tangible cost savings for fleet operators—advancing Canada’s broader transportation electrification and climate goals.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Demonstrate energy cost savings, operational efficiencies, and risk reduction of MHDV fleets using charging solutions.
- Accelerate zero emission MHDV adoption in Canada, reducing GHG and other pollutant emissions from MHDVs.
- Drive economic growth in the clean energy sector through fleet electrification.
- Create jobs across the EV value chain, including fleet advisory, electrical installation, product development, sales, manufacturing, software, data analysis, and policy.
- Support market-ready technologies and establish direct engagement with potential fleet customers.
- Deliver education and advisory services to both pilot participants and Alectra’s broader customer base, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully transition to electrified fleets.
