Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to deploy two community-owned, grid-connected microgrids to enhance local energy resilience, improve grid stability, and integrate renewable energy resources. It will utilize automation and Digital Twin technology to optimize performance, enable real-time monitoring, and facilitate remote troubleshooting.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Accelerate grid modernization for improved electricity system asset use, reliability, resiliency, flexibility, and increased Distributed Energy Resource penetration.
  2. Demonstrate a scalable Indigenous-led energy model supporting sovereignty and self-sufficiency.
  3. Improve energy reliability for remote and underserved communities.
  4. Provide a real-word application of Digital Twin technology for grid optimization.
  5. Support Canada’s clean energy transition by reducing fossil fuel reliance.
  6. Demonstrate the feasibility of community-owned microgrids as a sustainable energy solution.
  7. Provide data and insights for utilities, regulators, and policymakers on integrating solar, storage, and automation technologies.
  8. Support Indigenous leadership in renewable energy development and foster local economic opportunities.
