Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to deploy two community-owned, grid-connected microgrids to enhance local energy resilience, improve grid stability, and integrate renewable energy resources. It will utilize automation and Digital Twin technology to optimize performance, enable real-time monitoring, and facilitate remote troubleshooting.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Accelerate grid modernization for improved electricity system asset use, reliability, resiliency, flexibility, and increased Distributed Energy Resource penetration.
- Demonstrate a scalable Indigenous-led energy model supporting sovereignty and self-sufficiency.
- Improve energy reliability for remote and underserved communities.
- Provide a real-word application of Digital Twin technology for grid optimization.
- Support Canada’s clean energy transition by reducing fossil fuel reliance.
- Demonstrate the feasibility of community-owned microgrids as a sustainable energy solution.
- Provide data and insights for utilities, regulators, and policymakers on integrating solar, storage, and automation technologies.
- Support Indigenous leadership in renewable energy development and foster local economic opportunities.
