Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to enable the first commercial-scale, permanent CO2 storage in a pressure-depleted saline aquifer within a Canadian carbonate reservoir by supporting regulatory compliance for Origins.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Bring $200 –$400 million in direct investment to the region and attract carbon intensive businesses to locate in Central Alberta.
- Enable emissions intensive industries in maintaining operations and jobs in the short to mid-term.
- Attract diverse low carbon investments, including hydrogen, agriculture, petrochemicals, power generation, critical minerals, waste-to-energy, and direct air capture.
- Foster IP generation in clean tech, particularly CCUS technologies that may be enabled by Enhance’s CCS hub.
- Advance and share industry best practices for measuring, monitoring and validation, confirming sequestration permanence.
- Provide public access to data from well drilling and construction through the regulator.
