Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to support the Kluane First Nation in increasing energy sovereignty by transitioning to clean energy to reduce fossil fuel consumption while also providing economic opportunities for residents and beneficiaries.

Expected Results

The Lhù'ààn Mân N'tsi (Kluane Lake Wind) Project will maximize renewable energy generation, minimize diesel consumption and ensure reliable power is supplied to the community when renewable energy sources are not available.

As local sustainable energy resources are utilized to replace diesel fuel for heat and power in northern and remote communities there will be associated economic, social and environmental benefits, including increased community energy literacy, revenue from energy production, local employment opportunities, all while reducing local noise, greenhouse gas emissions and the potential for diesel spills.

All of the above will lead to more resilient Canadian communities.

Update 2025

Kluane First Nation successfully commissioned a 900 kilowatt (kW) wind turbine to sell power to the utility. The renewable energy is integrated with the utility-owned battery, energy management system, and diesel generators. In early spring, the system achieved 8 consecutive days with the diesels turned off.
