Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to demonstrate an innovative defrost and defog system for electric medium and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs) that uses less energy than current methods and reduces vehicle startup times for defrost from 20-25 minutes to 1 minute.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Reduce energy use in electric MHDVs, addressing cold weather performance challenges—particularly in Canadian winters—while creating skilled jobs and enhancing Canada’s global competitiveness in a high growth segment.
- Demonstrate a cost-effective, high performing technology that extends winter driving range, improving original equipment manufacturers competitiveness.
- Reduce electric vehicle capital and operational costs for vehicle fleets and MHDV end-use customers.
- Further promote the uptake of electric MHDVs, as they help lower greenhouse gas emissions, noise, and air pollution compared to conventional MHDV’s in all types of communities.
