Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to develop a lithium-ion cell with increased power capability through an advanced current collector design.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

1. Position Canadian lithium-ion cell manufacturing as globally competitive through superior power density, energy density, cell longevity and reliability.
2. Improve cold-weather performance for outdoor applications in the Canadian climate.
3. Enable new niche high-power battery applications.
4. Train multiple highly qualified personnel.
5. Address lithium-ion cell market gap for power tools, consumer electronics, medical applications, high-end EVs, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft and datacenter battery backup units.
6. Strengthen the midstream of Canada’s battery value chain.
