Nanode Battery Technologies
Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to rationally design and optimize nanostructured tin-based anode materials as alternatives for carbon-based anodes to improve energy densities in lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Develop high-energy-density batteries with reduced reliance on graphite, strengthening supply-chain resilience and creating skilled jobs in the battery sector.
- Lower battery costs, enabling more affordable electric vehicles and sustainable energy storage for Canadians.
- Foster domestic growth through collaboration with local materials companies, establishing a new upstream and downstream sodium-based supply chain and applications.
- Advance sodium batteries toward lithium-ion battery performance, providing a complementary, less resource-dependent technology.
