Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to characterize deep saline reservoirs in Central Alberta to support industrial-scale CO2 transportation and storage as part of Enbridge's Open Access Wabamun Carbon Hub.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Generate $6–8 million in annual gross cash flow for Indigenous Partners over 25 years, along with additional economic benefits such as jobs, training, and procurement opportunities throughout the phases of the Wabamun Hub project.
- Create hundreds of construction, development, and operations jobs, while boosting the competitiveness of Canada’s electricity, cement, and petrochemical industries (e.g., Dow).
- Further develop a comprehensive geological dataset and model to improve understanding of CO2 storage potential and risks in carbonate and siliclastic formations in Central Alberta.
- Serve as a critical step toward launching an open access CO2 hub in Central Alberta
- Support Heidelberg Materials' Edmonton CO2 capture project, which will improve local air quality through reduced particulate and sulfur oxide emissions, and lowering the facility’s fresh water use.
