Proposed Indigenous Ministerial Arrangements Regulations - Regional Profile: Territories

graphic banner image

There are several federally regulated energy infrastructures located throughout the territories. If Indigenous Ministerial Arrangement Regulations (IMARs) are made, it could enable the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources to enter into Indigenous Ministerial Arrangements with Indigenous governing bodies (IGB). Through the arrangements, the IGBs could have the authority to exercise responsibilities over the regulatory oversight of energy infrastructure under the Canadian Energy Regulator Act (CERA).

Federally regulated energy infrastructure in the Territories

Map of Territories
Text version

This map of the Territories, specifically the Northwest Territories and Yukon, focuses on the locations of major pipelines regulated by the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). There are very few pipelines in the territories. Two notable pipelines cross the territories; the Enbridge Norman Wells pipeline extends from Norman Wells down to northwestern Alberta and the Westcoast pipeline starts in the southwest of the Northwest Territories, crosses briefly into Yukon and continues south into British Columbia. More details about the energy infrastructure can be found in the following tables.
