Apply for NDT Recertification Re-Examination

A revised Structured Credit System (SCS) activities and accorded points for Level 3 Recertification is implemented to align with CAN/CGSB 48.9712:2022 standard.

If you fail to achieve a grade of 70% on each individual part or specimen of a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) recertification examination, you will have to apply for and pass a recertification re-examination in order to recertify.

Candidates cannot not attempt recertification re-examinations without valid, method-specific examination admittance and registration forms for practical exams and electronic written exam authorization for level 3 online written exams.

Recertification re-examination for Level 1 and 2

If you fail a Level 1 or 2 NDT recertification examination (obtain less than 70% on any individual part or specimen of the practical examination) you are allowed two (2) recertification re-examination attempts which must be completed within twelve (12) months of the initial recertification examination attempt. You must also wait a period of seven (7) days between examination attempts. If you have not completed all permitted recertification re-examination attempts within the twelve-month timeframe (and you have not exceeded your recertification deadline), you will need to reapply for recertification.

If you fail all three examination attempts your certification will become invalid and you will have to apply for and complete the process for initial certification in order to obtain valid certification.

Recertification re-examination for Level 3

If you fail a Level 3 NDT recertification examination (obtain less than 70% on the written examination elements or any part or specimen of the practical examination) you are allowed two (2) recertification re-examination attempts which must be completed within twelve (12) months of the initial recertification examination attempt. You must also wait a period of seven (7) days between examination attempts. If you have not completed all permitted recertification re-examination attempts within the twelve-month timeframe (and you have not exceeded your recertification deadline), you will need to re-apply for recertification. If you fail all three examination attempts your certification will become invalid and you will have to apply for and complete the process for initial certification in order to regain valid certification.

If you applied for the Structured Credit System instead of completing a written Level 3 recertification examination, and you have failed the Structured Credit System application, you will have to apply for and pass a written recertification examination. The Structured Credit System application counts as one Level 3 recertification attempt; therefore, only two written recertification examination attempts shall be allowed within twelve (12) months of the date of application for recertification via the Structured Credit System.

If you were unsuccessful in a Level 3 written recertification examination, and you would like to apply for the Structured Credit System instead of a re-examination, please complete and submit the Structured Credit System Application Form with your application for recertification re-examination (page1 only). For more information on how to apply for a structured credit system, please see the Examination guide for NDT recertification in the Quick downloads: forms and guides page in the “Find out more” section below.
