Canada is a major supplier of secure, reliable crude oil to international markets, producing 4.9 million barrels per day of crude oil in 2023. Canada also holds on of the world’s largest oil reserves in the world, surpassed only by Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Iran. Canada is the world’s fourth largest crude oil exporter

In 2023, 97% of Canadian crude oil exports went to the U.S. and 3% went to Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. As a result, Canada was the largest foreign supplier of crude oil to the U.S., accounting for 60% of total U.S. crude oil imports and for 23% of U.S. refinery crude oil intake.
